Montreal, November 2nd 2015 - The Regroupement québécois des Centres d’aide et de lutte contre les agressions à caractère sexuel (RQCALACS) launches the campaign #WeBelieveYou. The french version #OnVousCroit was launched on October 21st 2015. The campaign « is a plateform to commemorate the courage of thousands of women who at the time of the movement #BeenRapedNeverReported a year ago in November 2014 chose to tell their story or to denounce the sexual violence they had experienced. It is also a way to send a clear and unequivocal message to the victims: we believe you and to the relatives and loved ones: believe them», explains Nathalie Duhamel.
The campaign #WeBelieveYou seeks to emphasize the importance of believing the survivors when they disclose a situation of sexual violence to their relatives or when they denounce to the authorities. It reiterates that victims deserve and need to be believed when they open up about a situation of sexual violence. «That condition is fundamental to the unveiling, and ultimately to their recovery» says Nathalie Duhamel, coordinator of the RQCALACS.
#WeBelieveYou wants to offer a space for victims to testify about their experience at the moment of disclosure and to denounce the myths and prejudices that they encountered. It also wishes to promote the resources by inviting counsellors to share the work they do with survivors in their recovery process. The campaign invites everyone to put forward their action to prevent and eradicate sexual violence in their community.
People are invited to express themselves on twitter #WeBelieveYou and to make their voice heard on the Facebook page On Vous Croit/We Believe You. More information on www.rqcalacs.qc.ca.
